Shopify Editions is the event where Shopify announces new products and features for merchants and developers. This event is highly anticipated by both groups. As part of this annual event, Shopify has just announced the Winter ’24 Edition with a range of new products and exciting features that promise to enhance sales experiences.

Let’s explore some of the outstanding new products and features included in the Winter ’24 Edition.

Shopify Magic: Transform your product photography with AI

Shopify Magic is a suite of free AI-enabled features that are integrated across Shopify’s products and workflows to make it easier for you to start, run, and grow your business. Shopify Magic combines all the power of Shopify with the latest advancements in AI technology to provide personalized, contextually relevant support for a range of tasks across store building, marketing, customer support, and back office management.

Previously, Shopify implemented key features such as support for auto-writing product descriptions, and now Shopify Magic will support additional features to transform your product photography with AI. You can create professional product photos with new AI-enabled image editing features. Instantly generate, match, or remove the background of your existing images using just a few clicks or keywords. No design skills are needed.

Supporting up to 2.000 variants per product

Previously, you only can create up to 100 variants for a product. But now Shopify has released new product APIs to unlock up to 2,000 variants per product to better support more complex catalogs. This will help those of you with complex product catalogs and lots of colorways, sizing, and SKU options.

That means you can create up to 2,000 variants per product. However, it will be provided with APIs and support for app developers.

Better product classification

The latest Shopify’s product taxonomy feature is designed to reduce the time and effort required to create product listings. With this feature, you no longer have to spend time manually applying standardized categories and category-specific product attributes (such as color, age group, or size). Instead, the product page will automatically apply these attributes across different variants. As a result, your products will become more discoverable when they are published on social and marketplace channels.

Shopify Combined Listings

Shopify Combined Listings is a free app exclusively for Shopify Plus merchants that enables them to create a centralized product listing combining all the variations of a product. The app simplifies the process of visually showcasing all product variations in a single listing, eliminating the need for custom work and saving time, effort, and money. This results in a more compelling and higher-converting customer experience, boosting customer confidence and driving sales.

Shopify Subscriptions app now in full release

Previously, to implement the subscription purchasing feature, Shopify users had to use applications from third-party applications such as ReCharge, PayWhirl, Bold, etc. However, now merchants can use an application developed by Shopify itself named Shopify Subscriptions.

Shopify introduces that this app is easily set up and manages subscriptions directly from Shopify admin, and gives your customers the flexibility to modify or skip subscription orders and update payment and shipping details right from their accounts.

Features:

  • Offer auto-billed subscriptions (renew weekly, monthly, or yearly) with discounts
  • Allow your customers to cancel, skip, or pause subscriptions
  • Use customizable email templates for order confirmations or payment reminders
  • Access reporting to analyze your store’s subscription performance
  • Easily transfer existing subscription contracts to Shopify Subscriptions

Smarter Search that better understands a customer’s intent

Semantic Search is a new AI-powered storefront search feature on Shopify that enables customers to find products more intuitively. Customers can use more natural words and phrases, and get richer, more relevant results.

For example, if a customer searches for christmas party shoes, Semantic Search can associate the search term to colors green or red for christmas, and pumps for party shoes.

The feature is currently available on storefront search for Plus merchants with English storefronts and fewer than 200,000 products.

Above is our rundown of some of the highlights from Shopify Winter ’24 Editions. You can take a look at Shopify Editions for the full experience detailing the 100+ updates.
